The Herbert Grand Hotel is located in the Appalachian mountains of Western Maine. Our rivers, streams and ponds feature some of the premier wild brook trout and salmon fishing in the country. The Carrabassett River, great for fly-fishing in May and June, is directly across the street from the hotel and Flagstaff Lake, known for its salmon and trout, is a thirty minute drive from the Herbert Grand Hotel. The region is a mix of coniferous forest, hardwoods, mountains, apple orchards and swamps which promote a diverse habitat of moose, bear, bob cat and white tail deer which grow to trophy proportions.
If you are new to hunting and fishing in Maine's western mountains, we strongly recommend employing the services of Four Peaks Guide Service here in Kingfield, Maine. John McCluskey, the owner, is a registered guide in the state of Maine and knows the woods, streams and ponds better than anyone in the Kingfield and Carrabassett Valley region. You can learn more information about their services at the Four Peaks website at Four Peaks Guide Service.
